Growing US Nat-Gas Storage Hammers Prices

May Nymex natural gas (NGK26) on Thursday closed down -0.108 (-3.97%).

Nat-gas prices tumbled to a 1-week low on Thursday and settled sharply lower.  Growing US nat-gas storage levels knocked prices lower on Thursday after weekly EIA nat-gas inventories rose +103 bcf, above expectations of +97 bcf and well-above the five-year average for this time of year of +64 bcf.  

The outlook for warmer US weather will reduce nat-gas heating demand and is bearish for prices.  The Commodity Weather Group said Wednesday that above-average temperatures are expected across the eastern half of the US through April 27.  

Last Tuesday, nat-gas prices sank to a 17-month low due to above-normal spring temperatures that have reduced US nat-gas heating demand and expanded storage levels, with nat-gas inventories 5.8% above their 5-year seasonal average as of April 10.
