Hogs are ranging from 62 cents lower to 40 cents higher on Thursday. USDA’s National Average Afternoon Base Hog price for Thursday was $3.09 higher from yesterday’s midday report to $118.67. The CME Lean Hog Index for 7/12 was $112.82 up another 25 cents.
The weekly Export Sales report showed pork sales in the week of 7/7 at a 5-week low of 18,277 MT. Export shipments were the lowest this year at 23,122 MT.
Pork cutout futures are up a dollar at midday. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value for Thursday morning was $120.91, a $2.63 jump from the day prior. Sizable moves higher were noted for the bell and butt primals. USDA estimated the week’s FI hog slaughter at 1.344m head through Wednesday. That is down from 1.387m head during the same week last year.
