So far for Wednesday, fat cattle futures prices are up $0.90 to $1.65. The weekly FCE auction resulted in no sales for the 2,904 head listed. Bids were capped at $136-$137, while feedlots were asking $138+. Feeder cattle are also trading higher on the board with $0.67 to $1.02 gains so far. The CME Feeder Cattle Index for 1/24 was $159.77, down by another 69 cents.Â
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were lower again in the AM report, with Choice down another 88 cents and Select boxes $1.23 lower. USDA estimated FI cattle slaughter at 118k head for Tuesday. That has the WTD kill at 233k head, matching the same week last year.Â
