TORONTO - Canada's main stock index fell more than 100 points in late-morning trading, while U.S. stock markets also retreated.
The S&P/TSX composite index fell 138.40 points to 31,345.04.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 202.51 points at 48,214.05. The S&P 500 index was down 35.26 points at 6,781.25, while the Nasdaq composite was down 75.31 points at 22,982.10.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.71 cents US compared with 72.62 cents US on Monday.
The February crude oil contract was down US$1.58 at US$55.09 per barrel.
The February gold contract was up US$13.70 at US$4,348.90 an ounce.
