TORONTO - Strength in the financial and base metal sectors helped Canada's main stock index nudge upward in late-morning trading on Wednesday, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 89.83 points at 31,324.20.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 242.88 points at 47,803.17. The S&P 500 index was up 7.12 points at 6,847.63, while the Nasdaq composite was down 42.32 points at 23,531.28.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.24 cents US compared with 72.23 cents US on Tuesday.
The January crude oil contract was down 47 cents US at US$57.78 per barrel.
The February gold contract was down US$11.10 at US$4,225.10 an ounce.
