TORONTO - Canada's main stock index was up nearly 100 points in late-morning trading, helped by strength in the technology and base metal sectors, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 96.78 points at 30,133.24.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 109.30 points at 45,982.44. The S&P 500 index was up 18.98 points at 6,636.30, while the Nasdaq composite was up 169.77 points at 22,602.62.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.20 cents US compared with 71.44 cents US on Tuesday.
The January crude oil contract was down US$1.48 at US$59.19 per barrel.
The December gold contract was up US$23.90 at US$4,090.40 an ounce.
