Shipments of the iPhone within China increased 52% in April to 3.495 million units from 2.301 million a year earlier, according to data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).
CAICT tracks foreign smartphone sales in the nation of 1.4 billion people.
The April sales growth comes after a weak performance earlier this year in the world's biggest smartphone market.
Apple faces growing competition in the high-end market for smartphones from domestic rivals such as Huawei.
Apple's shipments in China increased 12% in March, marking a significant improvement from the first two months of the year when the company experienced a 37% sales decline.
Sales may see a further rise in May as Apple has discounted prices on its iPhones sold within China by more than $300 U.S. on some models.
The iPhone price reduction comes after Huawei introduced a new series of high-end smartphones that includes the Pura 70 and Mate 60.
Huawei overtook Apple in this year’s first quarter as the number two smartphone seller in China and is ramping up its marketing campaign and opening more retail stores in the country.
Huawei spinoff Honor is currently the top smartphone seller in China.
Overall, smartphone sales in China rose 26% to 22.7 million units in April, according to data from CAICT.
Apple’s stock has risen 7% in the last 12 months to trade at $189.98 U.S. per share. The stock had slumped in recent months due largely to reports of declining iPhone sales in China.
