Live cattle futures are 40 to 82 cents in the black so far, but are off their session highs by ~$1. Feeders are currently $1 to $1.97 higher, but April is still $1.55 in the red for the week. USDA reported live cattle traded hands from $185 to $190 on Thursday, with light and sporadic volume. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was 27 cents stronger to $248.46.
USDA’s Boxed Beef prices were 74 cents stronger in Choice and 66 cents higher in Select on Friday morning. USDA’s FI cattle slaughter estimate was at 473k head for the week through Thursday. That is down 11,000 head from last week and compares to 498k head during the same week last year.
