Live cattle are trading in the black after a slide last week. Gains are limited to 35 cents through midday in the front months. Feeder cattle are currently $0.62 to $1.05 higher. USDA had the bulk of cash activity for the week near $172 in the South and $176 in the North. USDA’s OKC Feeder Catlte Auction review had 8,200 head sold with 60% steers and 46% under 600#s. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was $2.07 lower to $199.46 on 5/4.Â
USDA’s AM Wholesale Boxed Beef report had Choice 81 cents weaker and Select $1.87 lower. USDA estimated the week’s FI cattle slaughter at 623k head through Saturday. That is 1,000 below last week but is 38k head lighter than the same week last year.Â
