Cattle pushed the downside further with Wednesday losses of $1.12 to $1.40. Feeders ended the session 0.9% to 1.2% losses of as much as $2.65. USDA reported Wednesday cash trades from $172 - $178, with the bulk established near $176 in NE. Tuesdays Southern trade was mostly near $172.  Wednesday’s FCE auction sold 311 of the 1,294 head listed for $172. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was $202.70 on 5/02, down by 12 cents.Â
USDA’s quoted Wholesale Boxed Beef prices at $309.09 for Choice and $287.12 for Select. For Choice, that was a 15 cent drop while Select was down by $1.54. USDA estimates the week’s federally inspected cattle slaughter at 376,000 head through Wednesday. That is 2k head more than last week and is 11k head above last week.Â
