
The cattle complex ended Monday lower. Front month fat cattle were down $0.40 to $1.12 at the close, while feeders went home $0.62 to $1.27 lower. Cash trade was unestablished on Monday. USDA said the bulk of last week’s cash trade was $2 lower for the South near $173, and $2-$5 lower for the North near $178. USDA’s OKC Feeder Cattle Auction Review mentioned 56% of the sale was heifers and 40% of the sale was over 600#s for the 7,200 head sold. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was $1.39 lower on 4/28 to $201.81.
USDA’s Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were shown at $310.02 cwt. for Choice and $291 flat for Select. That was a $1.42 drop in Choice and a $2.66 increase for Select. USDA estimated FI cattle slaughter at 123k head for Monday. That was 1k below last week but was up 10k from the same week last year.
