Westmoreland Coal Company is an energy company. It got incorporated in Delaware in 1910. The Company's operations are classified into four segments namely coal, power, heritage and corporate. Its current operations include surface coal mining complexes in four western states and power operations in North Carolina. It produces 28 million tons of coal and generates 1.6 million megawatt hours of electric power annually. The Company operates through its subsidiaries namely Westmoreland Mining LLC, Westmoreland Resources, Inc. and Westmoreland Kemmerer, Inc. Westmoreland Mining in turn through its subsidiaries operates four mining complexes namely Rosebud Mine, Jewett Mine, Beulah Mine and Savage Mine. Westmoreland Resources operates the Absaloka Mine and Westmoreland Kemmerer operates the Kemmerer Mine. The company owns 100% of the two-unit, 230 megawatt Westmoreland Partners - Roanoke Valley Energy Facility (ROVA) project. While the coal industry is intensely competitive, the Company focuses on niche coal markets where it takes advantage of long-term coal contracts with neighboring power plants and rail transportation.
