Nat-Gas Prices Slump as Warm U.S. Temps Curb Heating Demand

January Nymex natural gas (NGF22) on Tuesday closed down -0.287 (-5.91%).

Nat-gas prices on Tuesday sold off to a 3-month low.  The outlook for mild U.S. weather over the medium-term is hammering nat-gas prices.  The Commodity Weather Group on Tuesday said that temperatures across the U.S. will remain above-normal through Dec 4 and that it sees above-normal temperatures lasting at least through Dec 13 over the western half of the U.S.

Ramped-up U.S. nat-gas output is bearish for prices as BNEF data show U.S. lower-48 nat-gas production on Tuesday at 95.2 bcf, up +2.6% y/y.

Domestic nat-gas demand has weakened as BNEF data shows lower 48-state nat-gas demand on Tuesday was 82.2 bcf, down -7% y/y.

Foreign demand for U.S. nat-gas supplies is strong as BNEF data shows gas flows to U.S. LNG export terminals on Tuesday was at 11.6 bcf, up +7% y/y.  Last Friday, gas flows to LNG terminals rose to a record 12.34 bcf.
