
Front month lean hog futures ended Wednesday with a $2.07 drop in the October contract and a $1.62 loss in Dec. The 2023 contracts were firmer, but still ended 5 to 82 cents in the red. The USDA National Average Base Hog price was $104.81 on Wednesday after another $2.02 drop. The CME Lean Hog Index was down another $2.06 on 8/26 to $111.26.
Pork cutout futures ended the midweek session with $0.35 to $2.02 losses, with the nearby contracts weaker. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value for Wednesday was $103.19 after a $1.03 bounce. USDA estimated the week’s FI hog slaughter at 1.435m head through Wednesday. That compares to 1.438m head last week and 1.422m head during the same week last year.
