The midweek cattle market moved fat cattle futures 15 to 82 cents lower. Feeders were also red at midday but found afternoon strength to close mixed within 50 cents of UNCH. Central Stockyards had 708 head listed in Wednesday’s auction with no sales. USDA saw Tuesday cattle trade hands $1 higher near $142 in the South and near $148 in the WCB. The 8/22 CME Feeder Cattle Index was 6 cents lower to $180.60.
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were mixed on Wednesday afternoon with Choice boxes quoted 3 cents higher at $262.83 and Select boxes $1.18 weaker at $237.62. USDA estimated the WTD cattle slaughter at 375k head through Wednesday. That is up 2,000 from last week and is 24,000 above the same week last year.
