Live cattle futures closed near their day’s lows after being mixed mostly higher at midday. At the settle the front month futures were 17 to 65 cents in the red. The cash market for live cattle remains unestablished for the week through Tuesday. Feeder cattle closed 30 to 62 cents lower on the board, with March holding out for a 22 cent gain. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was 20 cents higher to $155.13, for 3.21.
Boxed Beef prices were mixed in the PM report, as Choice was $1.47 higher though Select was down by 61 cents. Tuesday’s federally inspected cattle slaughter was estimated at 123k head setting the week’s total at 242,000. That compares to 250k last week and 234k from the same week last year.
