TORONTO - Canada's main stock index was down in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the base metals sector, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 54.73 points at 32,785.87.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 119.39 points at 46,797.24. The S&P 500 index was down 4.10 points at 6,668.52, while the Nasdaq composite was down 54.76 points at 22,257.22.
The Canadian dollar traded for 72.86 cents US compared with 73.44 cents US on Thursday.
The April crude oil contract was up 28 cents US at US$96.01 per barrel.
The April gold contract was down US$66.80 at US$5,059.00 an ounce.
