Fat cattle futures are up 52 to 67 cents so far through Tuesday’s midday. USDA did not report any cash trading activity for Monday, as last week’s trade was mostly $140. Front month feeder cattle futures are $1.37 and $2.07 higher through midday. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was 9 cents weaker on 2/10 to $162.64.
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were mixed again this morning, tightening the Chc/Sel spread to $1.44. USDA estimated Monday’s FI cattle slaughter at 121k head. That was even with last Monday but compares to 77k head during the same week last year.
