October Lean Hogs opened higher and at the low of the day at 81.975. Price rallied all session to the high at 83.85. It settled near the high at 83.675. It was month end short-covering as funds continued taking profits after Friday’s reversal higher took price past resistance at 81.70 and a new high above its consolidation range. The consolidation band was from an 81.925 high to its 79.675 low. Friday’s higher settlement set the tone for Monday and with a strong opening price action, bears were on their heels. The month-end rally took price past resistance at 83.325 but below August 10ths high at 844.40. The rally coincides with a strengthening cutout that saw strength on Friday carry-over into Monday. We had a strong morning cutout that in typical fashion give back some of the gains on the afternoon report. But it is nice to see strength come back to the cutout and it needs to continue to push higher to get a bounce in cash prices., in my opinion. Will the bearish traders who covered the past two-days re-enter and go short on Tuesday? We’ll see!... A failure from the key level at 83.325 could see price test support at the flattening 21-DMA now at 82.025. Support then comes in at 81.70. If price can hold settlement, it could test resistance at 85.325. Resistance then comes in at 87.10.
The Pork Cutout Index decreased and is at 96.60 as of 08/28/2026.
The Lean Hog Index decreased and is at 91.52 as of 08/27/2026.
Estimated Slaughter for Monday is 476,000, which is above last week’s 469,000 and last year’s 1,821.
