D-Wave Quantum Inc. (QBTS) has officially launched its sixth-generation quantum system, the Advantage2, marking what it calls a "significant milestone" in the evolution of quantum computing. Built for real-world use, the new machine features more than 4,400 qubits and introduces major upgrades in coherence, qubit connectivity, and processing power, aimed at solving complex computational problems that traditional systems can't handle.
Available now via D-Wave's Leap(TM) quantum cloud platform, the Advantage2 system is production-ready and designed to tackle a wide range of industrial and scientific use cases, from optimizing mobile networks and manufacturing to accelerating artificial intelligence and drug discovery. Customers can also opt to install the system on-premises, as hyperscalers and research labs continue to expand quantum computing infrastructure.
With its new Zephyr(TM) topology, the Advantage2 processor boasts 20-way qubit connectivity, enabling users to solve larger and more complex problems. The system also delivers a 40% increase in energy scale and a 75% reduction in noise compared to its predecessor, all while maintaining the same energy consumption at just 12.5 kilowatts. According to D-Wave, a twofold increase in quantum coherence improves solution speed and accuracy, while integrated hybrid solvers now support up to two million variables and constraints for business-critical applications.
Since launching its Advantage2 prototypes in 2022, D-Wave has seen customer usage rise by 134% over the last six months. More than 20 million problems have been run using the system, including projects by the Julich Supercomputing Centre in Europe and Japan Tobacco, which applied Advantage2 to a drug discovery initiative integrating AI with quantum technology.
With the full system now generally available, D-Wave is also expanding its global presence. The company plans to install a new Advantage2 machine at Davidson Technologies for national security applications, and to upgrade the existing system at Germany's Julich center to enhance its connection with Europe's JUPITER supercomputer.
CEO Dr. Alan Baratz called the system "an engineering marvel," noting that it has demonstrated performance beyond what even some of the world's largest classical supercomputers can achieve. The company will host a webinar on June 10 to walk through the system's capabilities in greater detail.
