Lean hog futures closed with February up 30 cents and other contracts down 65to 95 cents on the day. The national average base hog negotiated price was reported at $78.51 on Wednesday afternoon, down 38 cents from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was reported at $81.59 on January 6, down 42 cents from the previous day.Â
USDA’s FOB plant pork cutout value was up $2.13 in the Wednesday PM report at $90.53 per cwt. The rib was the only primal reported lower, with the rest heading higher. Federally inspected hog slaughter on Tuesday was estimated at 490,000 head, with the weekly total at 1.424 million head. That is 104,357 head above the same week last year.Â
