Live cattle futures closed 30 to 60 cents higher on Monday. April futures set another new life of contract high. Feeders were also higher at the close with the front months up by 22 to 67 cents. USDA reported Thursday sales from $170 to $178. The bulk in the Northern trade hovered near $177 last week, with the South getting mostly $170-172. USDA’s OKC feeder auction review showed 4.4k head were sold with 78% over 600 lbs. The CME Feeder Cattle Index dropped $1.05 to $193.33 for 4/7.Â
USDA’s Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were stronger on Monday. Choice was up by $1.93 to $292.91 and Select was $2.62 higher at $278.40.  USDA estimated Monday’s FI cattle slaughter at 113k head, down 10k from the same Monday last year.Â
