
The lean hog futures market closed the midweek session $0.22 to $1.02 in the red. USDA’s National Average Base Hog price was $1.59 stronger to $79.50. The CME Lean Hog Index was 29 cents higher on 2/27 to $78.51.
Pork cutout futures settled the day with a 10 cent gain in June, but 10 to 72 cent losses in the other front months. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value was $1.18 higher to $85.54 on Wednesday. USDA estimated FI hog slaughter at 1.435m head for the week through Wednesday. That is 65k head above ast week’s pace and is 23k above the same week last year.
