There were $1.05 gains in Feb and Dec cattle on Thursday, with 10 to 67 cent gains in the deferred contracts. December expires today. Feb futures are a net $1.10 higher for the week with a day remaining. Feeder cattle prices settled Thursday 32 to 65 cents in the black. That has Jan feeders at a net 20 cent loss for the week. USDA reported some light to moderate cash trade on Thursday. In the South, trade went for $157, with $248-$250 for the North’s dressed market. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was $3.76 stronger to $179.84 on 12/28.Â
USDA’s Wholesale Boxed Beef prices for Thursday afternoon were $278.86 in Choice and $250.70 in Select. That was after Choice was 55 cents lower and Select was $3.42 higher. USDA’s estimate for the weekly cattle slaughter is 262k head through Wednesday.Â
