
Wednesday trading in hog futures has the board 12 to 75 cents in the black at midday. The USDA National Average Base Hog price increased another $1.57 on Wednesday morning to $97.47. The 9/1 CME Lean Hog Index was $104.74 after another $1.52 drop.
Pork cutout futures are trading mixed through midday, within $1.07 of UNCH. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value was $1.45 weaker this morning to $102.88, with bellies down by $10.33. The CME Fresh Bacon Index for 9/2 was $193.29, compared to $225.78 a week earlier. USDA estimated FI hog slaughter for the week through Tuesday at 485,000 head. That came via a 2k head kill on Labor Day and a 483k head slaughter for Tuesday. The same week last year was running at 478k head.
