The Austin, Minnesota-based company said it had profit of 11 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and asset impairment costs, were 37 cents per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 36 cents per share.
The maker of Spam canned ham, Dinty Moore stew and other foods posted revenue of $2.96 billion in the period, falling short of Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.05 billion.
Hormel expects full-year earnings in the range of $1.45 to $1.51 per share, with revenue in the range of $12.1 billion to $12.2 billion.
