MONTREAL - A settlement has been reached in a class-action lawsuit stemming from a deadly listeriosis outbreak linked to Silk Canada and Great Value plant milk products last year. Montreal-based law firm LPC Avocats says in a press release that a $6.5 million settlement was reached with Danone Inc., Walmart Canada Corp. and Intact Insurance Company. It says settlement funds, minus court-approved expenses, will be distributed to class members meeting certain criteria. LPC Avocats says the settlement is subject to approval by the Superior Court of Quebec, with a hearing scheduled for Jan. 26. The outbreak, which began in July of last year, led to three deaths, several serious illnesses and a national recall of certain plant-based milks. Silk brand almond milk, coconut milk, almond-coconut milk and oat milk were removed from shelves, as was Great Value brand almond milk. This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 21, 2025.
