Cattle prices are up by $0.52 to $0.95 for midday. The April contract is within a nickel of another new contract high. Feeders are rallying $1.97 to $2.95 so far through Monday. USDA confirmed Friday catch up sales from $163 to $167 across the feeding regions. The bulk of trade for the week was near $165. USDA data had 11k head of feeder cattle sold in the OKC auction review, prices were shown $1-$5 higher for the steers. The CME Feeder Cattle Index from 3/2 was $1.41 higher to $185.43. Â
USDA quoted Monday’s AM Boxed Beef prices as $290.53 for Choice and $277.75 for Select. That was a $1.21 and an 89 cent increase respectively. Federally inspected cattle slaughter for the week was estimated at 629k head, which is up from last week, but under the 659k head during the same week last year. YTD slaughter trails last year’s pace by 2.6%. Â
