Cattle futures are within 20 cents of UNCH so far, with feeders 20 to 32 cents higher. CME reported a10 deliveries against the Feb fat cattle contracts. Feeders stayed in the black during the afternoon pullback, going home UNCH to 37 cents higher on the day. USDA reported some light cash activity from $157 - $159 and from $250 - $253 in the beef on Thursday. Cash trade has been mostly quiet this week. The CME Feeder Cattle Index from 2/08 was $182.53, up by 24.Â
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices from Friday morning were 62 cents stronger in Choice and 8 cents higher in Select. The Chc/Sel spread was $15.82, but the rib primals had a $51.31 premium to Select. USDA estimated the WTD FI cattle slaughter at 494,000 head through Thursday. That is 6k head behind last week’s pace and is 4k head behind the same week last year.Â
