VANCOUVER - Telus says it has acquired new spectrum licences in B.C. and Alberta for $317.6 million.
The company bought the 3,800 MHz band licences in the government's residual spectrum auction for the radio frequencies that were unsold in previous auctions.
The 3,800 MHz band is considered mid-range spectrum.
It is desirable for its ability to support large numbers of mobile data connections and cover large areas.
Telus chief executive Darren Entwistle says the acquisition and deployment of the spectrum will further enhance the advancement of the company's 5G growth strategy.
He says the spectrum will complement the company's existing holdings to support emerging 5G applications.
