Telecom Argentina SA was created on January 5, 1990, and incorporated as 'Sociedad Licenciataria Norte S.A.' on April 23, 1990. In November 1990, its legal name was changed to "Telecom Argentina STET-France Telecom S.A." and on February 18, 2004, it was changed to "Telecom Argentina S.A. The Company provides fixed-line public telecommunication services, international long-distance service, data transmission and Internet services in Argentina and, through its subsidiaries, mobile telecommunications services in Argentina and Paraguay and international wholesale services in the United States of America. The Company has combined the operating segments into three reportable segments: Fixed Services, Personal Mobile Services, and Núcleo Mobile Services. Fixed services are comprised of: Basic telephone services, Interconnection services, Data transmission and Internet services, Information and Communication Technology Services, Other telephone services and Sale of equipment. Personal Mobile Services and Núcleo Mobile Services provide mobile services through its subsidiaries in Argentina and Paraguay. Personal's service offerings include: Voice, data and Internet services and Sale of mobile communication devices. The Company faces nationwide competition in the Internet service market in Argentina from Telefónica, Gigared, Cablevisión (Fibertel) and Telecentro (providing a triple-play offer), among others. Its data services business faces competition from Telefónica, Comsat, Grupo Telmex Argentina and from several providers of niche data services such as Impsat, IPlan and others. The Company's operations are subject to a complex series of laws and regulations of the Argentine government.
