It creates, incubates and licenses premier intellectual properties and develops products for console video game systems, personal computers and other interactive entertainment platforms. The products of consoles include Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) and Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3), Microsoft Xbox, Xbox 360 TM and Nintendo Wii TM. Handhelds include Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP), Nintendo Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS TM. The Company develops and publishes for the Sony PS2, PS3, PSP, Microsoft Xbox and Xbox 360, the Nintendo DS, and for PCs. The Company has been a developer and publisher of interactive entertainment software across multiple hardware platforms, with a focus on creating or licensing intellectual properties. The Company sells its games directly to distributors and retailers in North America and might also co-publish its games. In Europe and Australia, the Company licenses its games with major international game distributors or co-publishers in exchange for payment to the Company of either development fees or guaranteed minimum royalties. The guaranteed minimum royalties are recoupable by the partner against royalties computed under the various agreements. Once the partner recoups the guaranteed minimum royalties, the Company is entitled to additional royalties as computed under the agreements. The Company operates in one business segment, interactive software publishing. The Company's products compete with motion pictures, television, music and other forms of entertainment for the leisure time and money of consumers. The Company's competitors include Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, each of which develop and publish software for their respective console platforms. Other competitors include Activision, Atari, Capcom, Disney, Eidos, Electronic Arts, Koei, Konami, LucasArts, Midway, Namco, Sega, Take-Two Interactive, Time Warner, THQ, Ubisoft, Viacom and Vivendi Universal Games.
