Petroquest Energy Inc is incorporated in the State of Delaware and commenced its operations in 1985. The Company is an independent oil and gas company with operations in Oklahoma, Texas, the Gulf Coast Basin, Arkansas and Wyoming. From the commencement of its operations in 1985 through 2002, the company focused in the Gulf Coast Basin with onshore properties mainly in southern Louisiana and offshore properties in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico shelf. During 2003, it began the implementation of its strategic goal of diversifying its reserves and production into longer life and lower risk onshore properties. As part of the strategic shift to diversify its asset portfolio and lower its geographic and geologic risk profile, it refocused its opportunity selection processes to reduce its average working interest in higher risk projects, shift capital to higher probability of success onshore wells and mitigate the risks associated with individual wells by expanding its drilling program across multiple basins. At December 31, 2012, 87% of its estimated proved reserves and 75% of its 2012 production were derived from its longer life assets. During 2013, the Company's estimated proved reserves increased by 32%. The Company's competitors include major integrated oil companies, substantial independent energy companies, affiliates of major interstate and intrastate pipelines and national and local natural gas gatherers. The Company's activities are subject to existing federal, state and local laws and regulations governing environmental quality and pollution control.
