
After showing some early strength on Wednesday, front month lean hog futures went home mixed within 40 cents of UNCH. October hogs were the exception, having closed $1.60 in the red. The National Average Base Hog price for Wednesday was $107.73 up by $0.86. The CME Lean Hog Index was faltered 36 cents on 3/14 to $100.49.
Pork cutout prices were 15 to 52 cents higher on the board on Wednesday. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value for Wednesday was $105.02, up by 54 cents. Federally inspected hog slaughter was estimated at 1.425m head for the week through Wednesday. That is down 4k head from last week and is 47k head behind the same week last year’s pace.
