Lucid Group (NASDAQ: LCID) is deepening its ties to Saudi Arabia with a new strategic partnership announced today with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). The agreement is aimed at accelerating the company's development in electric vehicle (EV) innovation, particularly around autonomous driving systems and advanced driver-assistance technologies (ADAS).
The collaboration will see Lucid tap into KAUST's supercomputing infrastructure and research facilities located in King Abdullah Economic City. With this access, Lucid plans to bolster its engineering capabilities across a range of high-tech domains--from advanced materials and battery systems to AI-driven modeling and simulation.
Lucid stated that the partnership will support its roadmap in autonomous driving and vehicle software, while also playing into Saudi Arabia's broader ambition of becoming a global hub for sustainable mobility.
The technical focus of the initiative will include next-generation prototyping and component design across disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, and thermal engineering. Research will also center on developing lightweight and durable materials, such as high-performance metal and polymer composites, reflective glass coatings, and advanced laminates--all aimed at improving vehicle performance and energy efficiency.
Lucid engineers also plan to use KAUST's high-performance computing to run simulations for crash safety, heat dissipation, electromagnetic interference, and AI model training--tools critical to the development of digital twin platforms and autonomous functionality.
The announcement further underscores Lucid's growing integration into Saudi Arabia's industrial and innovation ecosystem. The company operates a vehicle assembly plant in the Kingdom and continues to receive significant backing from the Saudi Public Investment Fund.
