
Front month lean hog futures are mixed at midday. The nearby prices are 20 to 87 cents lower while the deferred contracts add to their premium with 40 to 95 cent gains so far through Friday. USDA’s National Average Base Hog price for was $70.33 in the Friday AM report, down by $1.94. The CME Lean Hog Index was $72.52 on 1.25 up by another 20 cents.
Pork cutout futures are up by as much as $1.17 on the board, save for the 37 cent loss in the Feb contract. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value for Friday morning was $2.74 stronger to $81.85. USDA estimated the week’s FI hog slaughter at 1.954m head through Thursday. That is 128k head more than last week’s pace and is up by 81k head compared to the same week last year.
