
Lean hog futures gave back their midday gains and closed in the red to start the week. Prices went home down by 17 to 40 cents. USDA’s National Average Base Hog price for Monday was $70.62 after a 28 cent drop. The CME Lean Hog Index was 57 cents lower to $73.28.
Pork cutout futures faded 27 to 45 cents on Monday. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout value for Monday was 93 cents higher at $80.92. USDA estimated the FI hog slaughter at 489k head for Monday. That is up from 424k head last week and 452k head during the same week last year.
