
June through October fat cattle futures were in the black at the close, gaining as much as 95 cents on Wednesday. The rest of the market dropped, with deferred fat cattle 27 cents lower and feeders $0.32 to $1.15 weaker. USDA had light cash activity for Wednesday from $170 to $177, still well above the Board. Central Stockyards had 1,946 head listed for Thursday’s FCE auction, with 224 heifers sold at $170. The other listings went unsold between $167 - $170 bids and $170 - $172 asks. Feeder futures settled $.32 to $1.15 lower, with nearby May down $1.15 and still a couple dollars premium to the Index. The 5/16 CME Feeder Cattle Index was 11 cents higher at $202.18.
USDA had Wednesday afternoon Boxed Beef Prices at $298.15 for Choice, down by $1.32, and at $282.89 for Select, down by $1.46. USDA estimated the week’s running slaughter at 379k head. That compares to 380k last week and 373k head during the same week last year.
