
Front month fat cattle futures closed UNCH to 40 cents higher. The August contract led the way on thin OI during the delivery process. Feeder cattle extended the pullback with another triple digit loss day of as much as $2.17 in the front months. The Tuesday FCE auction had 2 sales of 414 head out of the 1,211 head listed. USDA saw Tuesday cattle trade hands $1 higher near $142 in the South and near $148 in the WCB. The 8/22 CME Feeder Cattle Index was 6 cents lower to $180.60.
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were mixed on Tuesday tightening the Chc/Sel spread to $24 flat. Choice was down by $1.72 while Select was 44 cents higher. USDA estimated Tuesday’s cattle slaughter at 126k head. The WTD kill was at 251k head, compared to 247k last week and 237k head during the same week last year.
