
Live cattle futures were back up by $0.97 to $1.30 on Thursday. The CME showed no delivery activity for October contracts through 10/13. The oldest long was dated May 28th. Cash trade for the week has been mainly $124 in the North and from $122-$124 in the South with the bulk near $124. Going home on Thursday, feeder cattle futures were $0.77 to $1.17 in the black. The 10/12 CME Feeder Cattle Index bounced another 11 cents to $154.26.
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were back up on Thursday. Choice was 30 cents higher to $280.32, while Select bounced $1.98 to $260.68 cwt. USDA estimated FI cattle slaughter at 480k head through Thursday. That is even with the same week last year but down 3,000 from last week’s pace.
