
Nearby feeder cattle futures are printing 5 to 30 cent gains through Friday’s midday. Fat cattle on the other hand are down 35 to 45 cents through the front months. USDA confirmed Southern cash trade was $2 higher to $150 on Thursday, and Northern deals were $151-$152. The Feeder Cattle Index from CME was 11 cents higher on 10/25 at $174.96.
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were stronger again on Friday morning, with Choice up $0.73 and Select $2.66 stronger. USDA estimates the WTD cattle slaughter as 512k head through Thursday. That is up 3k head from last week and is 23k head above the same week last year.
