
Front month fat cattle futures were 32 to 92 cents lower on the day. Wednesday’s FCE auction had no sales between $170-$171 bids and $172 asks for the 1,721 head listed. USDA reported light $169-$170 cash trades in the Southern Plains on Wednesday. NE sales were $176-$178, but were also light. Feeder cattle futures were $0.55 to $1.27 weaker on the day. The 5/9 CME Feeder Cattle Index was 3 cents higher on 5/9 to $199.45.
USDA’s Wholesale Boxed Beef report showed Choice boxes were 51 cents lower to $306.87 cwt. while Select was 35 cents lower. USDA reported the week’s FI cattle slaughter at 380k head through Wednesday. That compares to 376k last week and 365k head during the same week last year.
