Lean Hogs Futures Market News and Commentary

Hogs Sell Off Extended to Wednesday

Lean hogs were under sell pressure on all on Wednesday, closing $.60 to 41.92 lower. USDA’s National Average Base Hog negotiated price was down 6 cents on Wednesday, to an average of $88.72. The IA/MN and WCB quotes were higher, but dragged down by the ECB values (not spelled out due to confidentially for individual producers). The CME Lean Hog Index was up 20 cents on June 3 at $91.93. 

USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value was down 45 cents at $100.31 in the PM report.  All of the pork primals were lower except for the bellies.  USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter at 482,000 head on Wednesday, with the WTD total at 1.446 million head. That compares to 1.394 million head a year ago.
