It subsequently amended its Certificate of Incorporation to change its name to Lucid, Inc. It is a medical device and information technology company focused on the design, manufacture and sale of non-invasive, point-of-care medical imaging devices to assist physicians in the early diagnosis of melanoma and other skin cancers, as well as non-malignant skin disease. The Company's flagship products for the early diagnosis of skin cancer are the VivaScope 1500 and VivaScope 3000 confocal imagers, which are also known as reflectance confocal microscopes. VivaScopes and VivaNet are designed to mimic the workflow of the current clinical practice in assessing suspicious skin lesions for skin cancer. The primary difference between traditional clinical practice and practice using its system is that rather than surgically excising tissue from a patient's skin lesion for subsequent examination under a microscope in the pathologist's office, a dermatologist using the VivaScope simply images the lesion with microscopic resolution and sends those high resolution images of the lesion through VivaNet to the pathologist for examination and reporting. The primary components of its system include: The VivaScope non-invasive confocal imaging device in the form of either an arm mounted imaging head (Model 1500) or a hand-held imaging device (Model 3000), which employs high precision optics, laser illumination and custom designed electronics to resolve thin layers of individual cells in the epidermis and upper dermis of the skin without the need for an invasive biopsy; and The VivaNet telepathology server that provides seamless transfer of VivaScope images from a dermatologist's or other originating physician's office and to a pathologist for interpretation, diagnosis and reporting.
