Argent Energy Trust is an unincorporated limited purpose open-ended trust established under the laws of the Province of Alberta on January 31, 2012. The Trust is a publicly traded energy trust created to provide investors with an oil and natural gas focused, distribution-producing investment, with favorable Canadian income tax treatment relative to taxable Canadian corporations. The assets held by the Trust include primarily long-life crude oil and natural gas reserves located in the U.S., within the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming. The Assets include the Austin Chalk and Eagle Ford Shale Oil Assets, the Manvel Oil Assets, the Oklahoma Oil Assets, the South Texas Natural Gas Assets, the South Texas Oil Assets, the Kansas Oil Assets, the Wyoming Oil Assets and the Deep Rights. The Trust, through its subsidiary U.S. Opco, encounters competition from other oil and natural gas companies in all areas of operation, including the acquisition of leasing options on oil and natural gas properties to the exploration and development of those properties. The Trust's competitors include oil and natural gas companies, individuals and drilling and income programs. The Trust, along with its subsidiaries, has exploration, development and production operations which are subject to stringent and complex federal, state and local laws and regulations governing worker health and safety, the discharge of materials into the environment or otherwise relating to environmental protection.
