Crude Oil WTI Futures Market News and Commentary

Crude Gains on a Weak Dollar and Positive China Trade News

June WTI crude oil (CLM24) this morning is up +0.23 (+0.29%), and June RBOB gasoline (RBM24) is up +1.43 (+0.56%).

Crude oil and gasoline prices this morning are moderately higher.  A weaker dollar (DXY00) today is bullish for energy prices.  Also, better-than-expected Chinese trade news shows strength in China's economy, which is bullish due to energy demand and crude prices.  In addition, crude has carryover support from Wednesday when the EIA reported a decline in weekly crude inventories.

Stronger-than-expected trade news from China, the world's second-largest crude consumer, supports fuel demand and prices.  China Apr exports rose +1.5% y/y, stronger than expectations of +1.3% y/y.  Also, Apr imports rose +8.4% y/y, stronger than expectations of +4.7% y/y.

In a bullish factor for crude oil prices, Saudi Arabia's state-owned Aramco raised crude prices for June delivery to Asian customers by 90 cents a barrel, above the consensus of 60 cents.
