Live cattle futures closed trade down 10 to 30 cents after sharp losses on Tuesday. Feeders settled 40 to $1.30 higher due in part to cheaper feed prices. The Livestock & Meat International Trade Data report is expected to be published on Friday, including global imports and exports for the month of July. The CME Feeder Cattle Index for 9/1 was up a dime to $207.12. The USDA afternoon report had average choice boxed beef prices of $240.97, down 24 cents, and select boxes $1.41 lower to $229.03 ahead of the three day Labor Day weekend. Cash cattle trade has been typically light so far this week, but have recorded live sales of >80% choice steers between $140 and $143. Dressed sales were reported between $222 and $223 today. Week to date est. slaughter as of Wednesday afternoon was 328,000 head, just 2K head larger than last week at this time.
