Lean hog futures are trading $1.15 to $2.60 in the red so far coming out of the weekend. USDA’s National Average Morning Base hog price was $65.85 on Monday. The Jan 6th Lean Hog Index from CME was 16 cents higher at $73.73.
Pork cutout futures are trading $1.60 to $2.45 in the red. USDA’s National Pork Carcass Cutout Value was $4 higher at $89.90 in the AM report. USDA estimated the FI hog slaughter at 2.587m head for the week through Saturday. That trails last year’s pace by 242k head.
