Midday cattle prices are down $0.80 to $1.07 so far. There were some light catch up sales on Friday for $136. USDA reported the bulk of the week’s activity has been near $138. Feeders are trading red through midday as well, giving back $0.65 to $1. The 1/06 CME Feeder Cattle Index was $161.79 after falling 49 cents.
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were higher in the AM report, with Choice up another $3.39 and Select $2.87 stronger. USDA estimated the week’s federally inspected cattle slaughter at 620,000 head through Saturday. That was 32,000 head below last year’s pace.
