Live cattle futures are showing Wednesday 87 cent to $1.70 front month losses. Cash trade has been picked up in the north this week at $345 dressed, steady on the week, with live sales at $218. The Wednesday Fed Cattle Exchange online auction showed no sales on the 1,7000 head offered, with live bids at $218-218.50 and dressed at $340. Feeder cattle futures are slipping from the early Wednesday gains with midday losses of 40 cents to $1.60. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was down another 17 cents on August 31 to $329.14.
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices were mixed in the Wednesday morning report, with the Chc/Sel widening to $24.41. Choice boxes were up $2.30 at $382.05, with Select $2.81 lower to $357.64. USDA estimated the Tuesday Federally inspected cattle slaughter at 106,000 head, with the weekly total at 207,000 head. That is up 2,000 head from the previous week.
